History

On this page you can find the entire history of Pine River Anthology, bar very few editions that are currently being searched for.

They are sorted left to right, top to bottom, with the most recent being featured. If the edition went by a different name, it will be found below the title in parentheses () and if there are multiple volumes in one year, the number will be found in brackets [].

Clicking on a cover image will direct you to the Alma College Repository page for that edition where you can find authors, forewords, and contents. Additionally, there will be a downloadable link on the left for a PDF of the edition so you can look through at your leisure.

I hope you enjoy the results of this process that took over a year to complete and that is constantly being added to every year.

Special thanks go out to the Alma College Library, Matthew Collins, and Jim Daniels for their help.

2023-24 Lacuna

In the worlds of art and literature, and

more, individuals often make work to fulfill

a deep and overwhelming desire to create.

To paraphrase a core point of Rick Rubin’s

The Creative Act: A Way of Being, the gap in

our knowledge of whatever subject matter

is sometimes exactly what lights the fire of

curiosity—pushing us to question what we

know, to create in order to explore and

research potential answers, and to keep

going in spite of uncertainty.

The anthology enters its 71st year in 2024

with the theme Lacuna, a blank space

or missing part.

The works printed in this edition grapple with

this theme by affirming or challenging it, and

they are carefully paired together to bring out

each piece’s strengths. The staff hopes to bridge

gaps between individuals and connect you to

these contributions of great artists and writers,

uplifting and supporting you at any

point in life.
